Matthew "Matt" Jerome Short is the second child and oldest son of Joan and John Short. He has an older sister named Heather and a younger brother named Greg. He has been married twice, the first time to Bonnie who left him and took all of his money and remarried in Season 2 to Colleen Brandon-Ortega-Short. He is the proud uncle of Tyler, Samantha, Sophia, and Lark and likes to give them advice that is not always helpful to their parents.

Matt is a white man in his late-thirties, he has brown eyes and short dark brown hair. He has a very short beard, and is average height with a slim fit build. He often wears loose button down shirts and dark slim jeans. Matt is a very low-key person and usually looks slightly scruffy and casual.
